A California Police Officer Has Been Accused Of Stealing Money From A Guy While He Was Being Arrested

San Fernando Police Officer Jeffrey King is being charged with one felony case of second-degree robbery, one felony offense of extortion, and one misdemeanor count of petty theft, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, who made the announcement on Thursday, June 8. On June 6, the warrant for the case was submitted.

On June 21, 2022, King responded to a San Fernando house after receiving an allegation of domestic violence and made an arrest. After being released from custody on June 23, the defendant, according to the District Attorney's Office, "reported that he was missing money that he had in his pocket during the arrest."

The District Attorney's Office claims that during the suspect's detention, King "took cellphones and cash" from his pockets. He allegedly handed over the phones to a manager, but he never turned the cash over as evidence or returned the money to the suspect.

The amount of money taken from the domestic abuse suspect was not made public by the District Attorney's Office.

A later time will be set aside for King's arraignment.

Law enforcement officials swear to uphold the law, not to break it, according to Gascón. Keeping one's integrity is a core rule of law enforcement, and taking someone else's property while they are being arrested is a blatant betrayal of that trust.
